ATF in Perspective

Since 1995 the ATF has put in place a sustainable institutional network that has enhanced regional and sub-regional theological interaction through study programmes and consultations and institutional development workshops. Bi-annual executive committee meetings to review and plan ATF programmes and consultations.

The ATF has built up its membership and mailing list to over 400 mission scholars, practising theologians and Christian professionals, and enhances continental networking through its bi-annual ATF Bulletin, that provides a forum for the sharing of news, projects and programmes, theological insights and mission experiences, and its Directory of members that is updated and shared every six months in the ATF Bulletin mailings.

The ATF historically has expanded its role in assisting the development of the quality intellectual and spiritual leadership that Africa needs, through scholarship assistance, academic mentoring and the formation of young scholars in a variety of professional fields, particularly through its postgraduate programmes (MTh African Christianity, PhD in Theology, and as from 2004, MTh Bible Translation & Interpretation).

The ATF is developing out of these activities a publication programme through its publishing arm, Regnum Africa, in order to disseminate the findings within Christian communities and churches through innovative theological education and Christian nurture at local level.

Writings generated through ATF activities find a further outlet in the Journal of African Christian Thought, launched in June 1998 from the Akrofi-Christaller Institute (ACI), the ATF facilitating link institution.
